2008 Review: TV

What a year in TV. Damn that strike for killing some of my favorite shows! Anyway, this year still provided some kick ass TV. Here are top 10 shows I couldn't do with out. (Not counting Days of Our Lives of course. That's like my Bon Jovi of shows, so it's just a given.)

The Best Shows:
10. Project Runway: Not since Austin Scarlett have we received a gift so wonderful from Project Runway...until Chistian! Best winner ever (and best other world Justin impersonator ever. lol)!
9. Weeds: I love this show more and more each year. Just when I think Nancy can't get herself into deeper shit...she does. She never fails in that regard. I loved the change of location this season, and the mule operation. lol
8. The Office: One of the best shows ever!
7. The Tudors: What an amazing series this has become. I will miss Ann Boleyn, she was a lot of fun to watch. Not to mention that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is mega-hot!
6. Big Love: Yep, that polygamy show. I love it. I mean... I fucking LOVE it! I don't even feel guilty for it. ...well...not much anyway. Seriously, you should Netflix it. You don't have to agree with plural marriage to agree that one husband plus 3 (soon to be fourth in the upcoming season?) wives equals good quality entertainment. lol Me and my mom are totally addicted and I can't wait until the new season starts in January. Bring back my sister wives!
5. The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and Bill Maher: This was a great year for these three shows with one of the most entertaining elections ever. Good times.
3. Saturday Night Live: I'm proud to say I've always loved SNL...I'm not a fair-weather fan so to speak. However, this year the show was totally deserving of all the attention it got. From the digital shorts, Tina Fey's triumphant return, to Justin Timberlake...we're the dancers! lol This season SNL showed why it's been around so long.
1. Lost: Best season ever! Wow! We needed something to happen, and this season we got it. People left the island! Kate has Aaron! Sayid and Ben?! Jin! Penny! Michael! Fisher Stevens? lol Wow. Seriously, you could feel a new energy in the writing this season. You can feel that the writers really have a clear sense of how things are going to wrap up. Now that we know what has happened since leaving the island, I can't wait for the journey back to begin! I'll be sad when this show is finally over in a couple of years, but I'm really going to love watching it end.

So, there were the good shows, however there were of course some shows that were not so great.
The Worst Shows:

4. Knight Rider: ugh! I'm so irritated about this show. I wanted to love it! I tried so hard...but it's just really not good. The show is too rushed, no plot, no chemistry...yuck! Apparently, they're re-working this show...again, for another relaunch. I just don't know if I care enough to give it another try.
3. Cavemen: No. A commercial character does not a show make. The show hurt my opinion of the commercials.
2. Larry King Live: Seriously, Larry King irritates the shit out of me. He is the worst interviewer EVER! He's the male Joan Rivers. Someone get that guy some fucking Cliffs Notes on his guests before they come maybe. Put a damn mic in his ear and feed him lines. AAAH!!!
1. The Moment of Truth: Worst show ever! Worst idea ever....wrong wrong wrong wrong!! Awkward!

Last but not least here's a nod to all the good shows we lost this year. ::sniff::

Goodbye Miss Bettie

I mourn the loss of Bettie Page, who died yesterday at the age of 85. Bettie Page was an amazing woman that I really admired because she was a woman who loved being a woman. She loved her body and had a grace and a confidence that came through her. Her confidence is what made her so beautiful to me. I love that she a was a woman that made it on her own, and by her own rules. For me, she is the embodiment of feminine power, sexuality and softness. I absolutely love her and I'm so at our loss. However, I'm glad that she's at peace now. She suffered a heart attack over a week ago, and has recently been in a coma. That is not the way that Bettie Page would want to live... so I'm grateful that she doesn't have to now. Bettie, thank you for all you've done for women, and for me personally. Following is a statement made by her agent, Mark Roesler as posted at BettiePage.com:
With deep personal sadness I must announce that my dear friend and client Bettie
Page passed away at 6:41pm PST this evening in a Los Angles hospital. She died
peacefully but had never regained consciousness after suffering a heart attack
nine days ago. She captured the imagination of a generation of men and women
with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality. She is the embodiment of
beauty.

Peace Out Fucker!

It's not for the murders he committed, but OJ Simpson will finally serve his much deserved prison time. I hope that this will enable the Goldman and Brown families to find some closure and peace. Read the New York Times article about his 9+ years sentence.

Movie Update

I just realized that I never reviewed Quantum of Solace, and I need to drool about it a little. Seriously, I loved it so so so much! I love that the Daniel Craig Bond movies take Bond back to the beginning of his 00 career. Casino Royale was so gritty, and had an aggressive violence to it. This movie does a good job of taking the first steps towards evolving James towards the Bond we're used to. It's a baby step, true, but this film Bond was a little smoother, and a little more I can't wait to see the next film now that James will be free from the ghost-of-Veseper-past. Last but not least, OMG Daniel Craig couldn't be hotter! ::sigh:: This past weekend I went to see Australia, and am pleased to report that it was out of this world fantastic! I love Baz Luhrmann films, the three films that are a part of his Red Curtain Trilogy, are three of my favorite films ever. Those films, Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge, and Romeo + Juliet, all share a similar visual style to them. Although Australia lacks the extreme in-your-face style of those films, you can still tell that you're watching a Baz film. From some the close-up face shots that he uses often to the cast, many of whom have appeared in other Luhrmann films. My personal favorite was seeing the father from Strictly Ballroom, Aussie actor Barry Otto. Fun trivia fact about Barry Otto is that his daughter, Miranda Otto is the actress who played Eowyn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, also seen in with Barry in the photo to the above. Anyway, Barry was one of my favorite parts of Strictly Ballroom, so it was fun to see him again in Australia. Great movie, great performances, great story. However, in not great movie news... I recently added another film to my list of movies I walked out on. Granted, I was watching it at home, but I think this will still qualify. I recently used my free rental code for Red Box to rent that piece of shit Don't Mess With the Zohan crap! It cost me nothing to rent it, yet after 45 min of this movie I quit watching it, got back in my car and returned it less than an hour after renting it. I've loved him in some of the other more dramatic roles he's taken on, but this movie sucked balls. Seriously.
