End of the Year Review

I've decided that I'm going to quit saying how shitty the year was every new years. After all, I've only got myself to blame if I had a shitty year, so I should look ahead towards the new. Besides, in 2007 I quit smoking! That is huge and certainly makes 07 a year to remember. Here are some other great things from this year.

  • I got another tattoo... and it's Boss Hog cool.
  • I got serenaded at Country Buffet. How many people can say that?
  • I reconnected with my brother after 25 years
  • I went to a Bronco game
  • Bon Jovi had a new album come out

In fact a lot of cool things happened this year. It was a tough year for some of my friends who lost members of their family. However, those we love and miss are happy now, and will be with us always. So, I really am optimistic for 2008. For the first time, I think that I won't be sad at midnight because I'm thinking about what should have been. Instead, I'm going to start next year by thinking about what is and what could be. I wish all of you the same. I hope you are able to start the new year with a sense of excitement and hope. Happy New Year to all of you. Be safe and have fun.

Best TV of 2007

  1. Lost: Wow, this was the best season of the show so far. The writers seem to finally have a end game in site, and it shows. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL IT STARTS AGAIN! It's like crack... I NEED it.

  2. The Sopranos: What a great job the writers did on this final season. It was a great way to end a great series.

  3. 30 Rock: Kenneth makes the show... he's my favorite. Just his smile makes me laugh.

  4. Big Love: Whatever, this show fucking ROCKS!

  5. Dexter: This show is amazing. It's just so so good. If you have Showtime, I recommend it.

  6. Chuck: This was a good year for pilots. My favorite of the new series' is Chuck. I love that all the characters on the show are interesting. Great cast!

  7. Survivor China

  8. Weeds

  9. Heroes

  10. Days of Our Lives: It's been a great year! I love me some DiMeras!

Really?

I found this while driving around looking at Christmas lights... and I had to stop my car and take a picture to share with you. Now, for you to truly appreciate this I need to give you an idea of the size of it. I was about 8 feet high and about 20 feet long. There was literally scaffolding behind this lit up monstrosity. SCAFFOLDING! Where do you find something like this? Imagine the people across the street on the day they were setting this up. : O lol Those poor neighbors. Now...don't get me wrong. It's not the fact that the "decoration" is religious in nature that bothers me, after all "Jesus is the reason for the season" lol. However, I would think that even for a Christian "Happy Birthday Jesus" is a pretty stupid thing to say. Happy Birthday?! Really? It's not exactly like Jesus' Super Sweet 16!! Next fourth of July I'm getting one that says "Happy Birthday America!" Good times. I hope to bring you more of my favorite Christmas home decorations soon. Including... my neighborhoods "Griswold" family. I don't know if I can get all of it into one picture though... but I'll try. Till then, Happy Birthday Jesus!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving

Well, we're heading to Portland in the morning for my cousin's wedding on Friday. The first part of the week will be fun, we've got a few days to just do vacation stuff. The end of the week will be not so fun, that's when we'll be doing wedding stuff. Anyway, hope you all have a good holiday.

Staring at the sea
Will she come?
Is there hope for me
After all is said and done
Anything at any price
All of this for you
All the spoils of a wasted life
All of this for you
All the world has closed her eyes
Tired faith all worn and thin
For all we could have done
And all that could have been
Ocean pulls me close
And whispers in my ear
The destiny Ive chose
All becoming clear
The currents have their say
The time is drawing near
Washes me away
Makes me disappear
I descend from grace
In arms of underflow
I will take my place
In the great below
I can still feel you
Even so far away
-NIN-
I believe I can see the future
Because I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
Then again, that might have been a dream
I think I used to have a voice
Now I never make a sound
I just do what I’ve been told
I really don’t want them to come around
Oh, no.
Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same
I can feel their eyes are watching
In case I lose myself again
Sometimes I think I’m happy here
Sometimes, yeah, I still pretend
I can’t remember how this got started
But I can tell you exactly how it will end.
Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same
I’m writing on a little piece of paper
I’m hoping someday you might find
Well, I’ll hide it behind something
They won’t look behind I am still inside here
A little bit comes bleeding through
I wish this could have been any other way
But I just don’t know, I don’t know,What else I can do…
Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is the same!

That's a Bad Bon Jovi! Bad!

For the first time I'm disappointed in Bon Jovi. I'm just heartsick about it,
but they have really broke my spirit today. Today began the presale for
tickets to their show here in March. So, as usual, I go online to get me some tickets. Then I see that the prices are almost twice the cost of the last tour here. $130 for floor seats! Last tour I got 2 floor seats for $150! I don't believe in the concept of "selling out", so that isn't it. I guess it just feels like this time my boys are more concerned with making money than about the fans. In the past, fans got the earliest presale available. This time, American Express card holders had the first presale time slot, this morning at 9am. Fans had to wait until noon. Then, the only tickets that are available for presale are the $1000 VIP package and the $130 floor seats. Yes, I said $1000 VIP package. What does a grand get you? You get 1 ticket (up close), you get to go on a side stage for 3 songs, you get something autographed by the band, and a $100 gift certificate for the Bon Jovi store. For $1000! I think that should get you backstage, a meet and greet, something! The next section up from the floor is $100-$130 and then next up from that is $61, followed by the nosebleed at $45. Now, those of you who know me know that I love my boys... but these prices are crazy! I'm so disappointed. Like a parent who caught their child lying or stealing. I'm disappointed. I feel betrayed by them. I'm sure I'll still get tickets tomorrow, but I'm actually thinking about it. It would be kinda nice for the show to get a low turn out, so they learn their lesson and get back to decent prices next tour. (like rubbing your puppies nose in their poo. Bad puppy!) However, come March, if I don't have tickets I know I'll cry. lol I don't know. I have to sulk a little. I just can't believe my boys.

Rake up Colorado

My mother and I volunteer for the Democrats and as part of that they had a bunch of us work with the Volunteers of America for the 5th Annual Rake Up Colorado event this past weekend. Basically this is an event where volunteers rake leaves for seniors and disabled people who aren't able to do it themselves. This was the first time we've done this event... and I've got to say it will probably be the last, lol. Wow... I had no idea that raking was so hard. Never having lived in a house, I've never raked before. So, the whole thing was quite a shock for me. Raking leaves sucks balls! Big ones. Mom and I worked with another Democratic volunteer, Amy, who was so cute and so much fun to work with. Thank you dear baby Jesus for Amy. Amy had a better rake, and experience. ;D Priceless. lol We thought we were being so smart picking 2 houses out in our area rather than downtown (because then we're so close to home..right? This was a mistake.) See, the difference is that the yards downtown are MUCH smaller than the yards out by us. In fact, the two places we chose ended up being 2 farms. NOT so much fun. I twisted my ankle and have severe back pain still, but I am so glad that we went. It really does feel good to help people out. The second lady we helped was 82 and followed us around with her walker to keep us company. She cried when we left and kept calling us angels. It was really touching. Next time though, I'll be going for the book sorting at the library or something like that.

My New Sugar Skull Tattoo

Shannon, Jake and I went to the Body Art Expo this weekend and I got a new tattoo. I got this sweet ass sugar skull and I fucking LOVE it! It came out so well! It's still swollen, bruised and a little scabby so I'll re post a picture once it's healed so you can see the color around the mouth better. Eventually I'll have flower work done around it and maybe add another skull next to it...who knows. I had my work done by Dave from Bloodshot Tattoo off of Hollywood and Vine in Hollywood, CA. He was so awesome. I was so glad that I chose him to do it. Jake had to leave early, otherwise I think that he probably would have had gotten one. He's been thinking about getting this one tattoo for years now, and I think he was closer than he'd ever been before, but him and Justin had tickets for the Rockies game... so it didn't happen. Oh well. Maybe he'll want to go and get it done somewhere in town now...we'll see. Anyway, just thought I'd share my new skull with you... I love it so much! :D

...Wow.

I enjoy getting emails from people around Halloween that have pictures of people and/or pets in their costumes... there are some really clever costumes out there. However... every now and then one comes through that just makes you wonder how that person EVER thought about that idea. This is one of those moments. I don't even know what to think. I'm horrified, yet I laugh. I'm disgusted, yet impressed at the creativity. You can't deny that the attention to detail is impressive. It's nice that the labia is represented..and his hair becomes her pubic hair. Nice... good work(?). ...Wow.

Touche Terrorists.... Touche.

The terrorists tried to take me down... but little did they know this isn't my first time at the rodeo! I feel like I could die today because I've gone and got food poisoning for the second time in my life. I ate some leftover rice made last week...turns out that is where it came from. (The first time was from KFC coleslaw...which sucked balls because I really LOVED their coleslaw and I've never been able to bring myself to eat it since. Damn you KFC!) So, while I was online looking up food poisoning and trying to determine if it could even come from rice (rice!? it seems so innocent.) I found the following description of one of the many types of food poisoning. Please to enjoy.

Bacillus cereus: Causes mild illness with rapid onset of vomiting, with or
without diarrhea and abdominal cramping. It is associated with rice (mainly
fried rice) and other starchy foods such as pasta or potatoes. May also be used
as a potential terrorist weapon.

Did you catch that..."MAY ALSO BE USED AS A POTENTIAL TERRORIST WEAPON." Nice...real nice. All I wanted to do was have a light lunch....and BAM! terrorism strikes. Like I said though...having been down this road before (when KFC tried to take me out) this time I knew what was happening...and I've got to say that the first time was way worse. I was pucking for 2 days that time (lol... sorry again to my poor roommate who was emotionally traumatized for life because of all the vomit) and this time I've only vomited a few times...and I'm hoping that I might be done with that part. My body still hurts though... so I'm going to go try to lay down and not vomit. See ya.

Remembering Ryan Martinez

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

Mary Frye
My friend Amber lost her brother Ryan to suicide this week. His funeral was today and it was both one of the saddest and most beautiful services I've ever been to. Death is always sad, but when it's a suicide it's so much worse. My mom and I were with a large number of people that couldn't even get into the church because there were so many people there. I couldn't help but look around at all the faces of his family members, and his friends from school... so many people who are heartbroken tonight. If only he had known how many people loved him. If only he could have seen how many people would have helped him if he'd only said something. So many young people, kids still in high school who shouldn't have to deal with death yet... certainly not one of their friends. So many were there, grieving together, and it was beautiful. I felt so humbled by their pain. In particular, there was a young kid (probably 16 or so) standing by us and he couldn't stop crying. This kid with his baggy jeans and oversized tshirt kept taking his baseball hat off to cover his face while he cried and I just wanted to hug him so bad. The pain he was feeling was overwhelming. Then to think of the pain that Ryan's family is going through. Amber, if you read this know that you, your Mom and Dad are in my heart. I'm so sorry for what has happened to your family, and I hope that you know that Mom and I are here for you all in anyway you may need. Like Mom said to you today, we don't know what to say... but we'll be glad to listen to you, or cry with you, or even laugh with you. Whatever you need. Ryan was a great guy, and I'm always going to remember him as the laughing guy who was taking pictures of his butt while we did our hair. lol I hope that in time you'll be able to remember him and smile again too. I love you Amber.

Viva Survivor!

Just a quick post today about some of the upcoming fall tv shows (Yeah! They're finally back!) Those of us that have Comcast have access to many of the new pilots that have yet to air in On Demand. I've watched some and thought I'd pass along my thoughts.

Bionic Woman: Totally awesome! I think this show is going to be pretty cool. I love seeing Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica) as a kick ass bad bionic woman! She is so hot with make up and a wardrobe consisting of more than a wife beater and a flight suit. lol Anyway, I highly recommend checking out the pilot, Wed. the 26th on NBC.

Chuck: Also a great pilot episode. It's funny, and had action too. I love the actor who plays Chuck, Zachary Levi. He's cute and nerdy... a combo that I like. Monday, Sep 24 after Heroes.

The Big Bang Theory: This one is on CBS, Mon. the 24th. This is about two nerdy guys who live together, and a hot girl moves in across the hall, causing them to geek-out, as it were. lol Shenanigans ensue. I loved this pilot! I thought it was SO funny. The best part is the group of nerdy guys that they're friends with. "You want us to leave because you anticipate coitus?" lmao! Definitely give this one a shot if you've got an opening in your tv schedule. Good times!

I haven't watched Journeyman or Life yet (I haven't even heard of Life), and I don't know if I'll get to them before their air date... Survivor starts tonight and it's all I can think about. (Especially since the ending of Big Brother this season broke my spirit! Fuck the Donatos!)

Arrr! It's Talk Like a Pirate Day, ye scurvy dogs! For the history of the day from the 2 men who started it all check it out here. I've pulled a few of my favorite pirate words from their lingo page, here. So, prepare yourselves to learn smartly you bilge rats!

Bung hole – Victuals on a ship were stored in wooden casks. The stopper in the barrel is called the bung, and the hole is called the bung hole. That’s all. It sounds a lot worse, doesn’t it? On TLAP Day – When dinner is served you’ll make quite an impression when you say, “Well, me hearties, let’s see what crawled out of the bung hole.” That statement will be instantly followed by the sound of people putting down their utensils and pushing themselves away from the table. Great! More for you!

Avast! - Stop and give attention. It can be used in a sense of surprise, "Whoa! Get a load of that!" which today makes it more of a "Check it out" or "No way!" or "Get off!"

Arrr! - This one is often confused with arrrgh, which is of course the sound you make when you sit on a belaying pin. "Arrr!" can mean, variously, "yes," "I agree," "I'm happy," "I'm enjoying this beer," "My team is going to win it all," "I saw that television show, it sucked!" and "That was a clever remark you or I just made." And those are just a few of the myriad possibilities of Arrr!

Fer additional fun, ye can go to www.mediawardot.com an' check out their True Pirate Radio. This playlist for your listening enjoyment will fill your day with Pirattitude!

You are The Cap'n!

Some men and women are born great, some achieve greatness and some slit the throats of any scalawag who stands between them and unlimited power. You never met a man - or woman - you couldn't eviscerate. You are the definitive Man of Action, the CEO of the Seven Seas, Lee Iacocca in a blousy shirt and drawstring-fly pants. You’re mission-oriented, and if anyone gets in the way, that’s his problem, now isn’t? Your buckle was swashed long ago and you have never been so sure of anything as your ability to bend everyone to your will. You will call anyone out and cut off his head if he shows any sign of taking you on or backing down. If one of your lieutenants shows an overly developed sense of ambition he may find more suitable accommodations in Davy Jones' locker. That is, of course, IF you notice him. You tend to be self absorbed - a weakness that may keep you from seeing enemies where they are and imagining them where they are not.

Addio Maestro, Grazie.

My heart breaks for the loss that the world has suffered today. Luciano Pavarotti lost his battle with cancer today, and died at the age of 71. I can't stop crying. When I was a teenager and got my first cd player, the first cd I bought was The Three Tenors concert featuring Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. I remember taking some heat from friends at school for it... but not from those that understand music. I've always said that you can't truly appreciate music if you can't appreciate classical and opera... and Pavarotti was the voice of the classics. His voice is what I imagine heaven would sound like, and through the years and future Pavarotti cds I would own, he brought music to life through his instrument. He moved me, and he made me aspire to do the same when I sang. I've added some of his performances to my video bits above. I ask you to watch him; to hear him. Sit back, close your eyes and he'll transport you into the song. I'll forever regret that I was not able to see him perform in person, but I am forever grateful that I got to hear him sing. He changed music for me, and countless others over the years. Thank you Luciano, for sharing your gift with the world. If there are angels, I know you're singing with them now. You will be missed.

"Was that the Boogeyman?"

We went to see Halloween last night and I have to say that Rob Zombie did not let me down. He's been such a douche bag in all the interviews for this film that I was getting a little worried... but this movie rocked my face off! It should be said again that Halloween is at the top of my favorite horror films, and Mike Myers is, in my opinion, the #1 horror killer. So, I may be biased... if you didn't like the original Halloween movie... you're not going to like this one. Despite Rob Zombie repeatedly saying that this movie is NOT a remake, in actuality... it is. It's like the original movie with bonus footage. I love what he did to the film. He shortened some scenes that didn't need to be so long, and added in an entire prologue of sorts that helps to explain why Mike Myers is the way he is. Seriously... this movie fucking rules!!! If you like the Halloween movies I don't need to tell you t see this movie because you will anyway. The good news is that you're going to be so happy! The new and improved Mike Myers is even scarier than before. (By the way, whoever plays the adult Mike Myers is a fucking freak-of-nature-giant-beast-of-a-man. He's HUGE!!) Also, great to see so many of the actors from House of 1000 corpses and Devil's Rejects in this project too.

Maddox, You Rock My World.

Unfastened Coins Website. Check it out... if you can handle the truth.

It's Alive!

I successfully gave my computer a heart transplant... so I'm now fully functional again. I needed a new power supply, which cost $80, but Best Buy wanted $180 to do it all (part, install and diagnostic) for me. Those who know me know how I feel about fucking "Best" Buy, so I said "No thanks." I got the part, and put it in myself. It took about 45 min. but it wasn't hard at all. So far so good.
I've added a YouTube window to my Nooks. I thought this would be easier than posting videos individually. So, on my player you can check out some of my favorite YouTube finds. If you haven't heard Marilyn Manson's version of "This is Halloween" from one of my favorite movies ever, The Nightmare Before Christmas, you can check it out there. Also I found some of my favorite SNL skits. Also included is the Halloween trailer... I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! Mike Myers is my favorite horror movie bad guy....hopefully we'll get a chance to see it this weekend.
In other news, I'm off "smoke" until I get a job. I have to pass those drug tests. It's been a couple of weeks now, so it's not so bad now I guess. I guess it's probably good for me to take a break for awhile... but especially now that my computer is fixed all I want to do is smoke! I racka diserpin. lol. Hopefully you get that. Anyway, I have to have a job by Sep. 24th because Heroes starts that day and I want to smoke for that. Although Jake doesn't get back from Hawaii until the 26th, so I may wait a couple of days to watch it with him. Who knows. Chris and I will have to discuss that. I don't know if we'll be able to wait. If you haven't seen Superbad, go see it. It's one of the funniest movies EVER!

Wednesday, August 15

What's the haps?

Well, since my last post my brother and I have spoken a few times on the phone, and so far... so good. Of course I knew it wasn't going to go "bad" but, I thought that conversations would be strained at least, but not at all. I can't wait to get to meet up with him, and then at some point down the road, getting to meet my nieces and nephew. wow. That sounds strange. :)
In other news, I finally finished the final Harry Potter book. I'll just say that I was VERY happy with the book and I loved every moment of it. It's sad that it's come to a close, but man... that is going to be one kick ass movie! As for what I'll read now, here are my thoughts. I finally gave up and returned Dune to Jake. I just can't get through it. Maybe I'll try again one day, since so many have told me they think I would like it, but not now. I've missed Anne Rice lately. So I think I'll do a book in the vampire series (not sure where I am in that one. I can't remember if I finished Memnoch the Devil or not.) Or I have a series by Dean Koontz to read, but I'm missing the first one so I'd have to track that one down first. Hmmm... what to do.
Just for fun here are a couple of stupid Family Feud answers from today's show:
  • "Name something your parents may criticize y0u for not having?" answer given: "Homework" ? (#1 was a job.)
  • "Other than buying one, name another way a person can get a car?" answer given: "A GPS system" yep. GPS. (#1 was steal one)
Note: Both these answers were provided by the same girl. lol
One final note: I don't know if you watched John from Cincinnati on HBO or not... but if not, I'll sum it up for you. What the fuck?! Basically that's all you need to know. Jake just informed me that it will NOT be returning for a second season. Now, it's not that I'm upset it got cancelled. Frankly, I'm not surprised. However, I'm so tired of shows getting canceled without sufficient answers being given to "wrap things up". (e.g. Dark Angel!) So, whatever HBO and fuck off for having me waste so much time on whatever the fuck that show was. Lame.

The Bad News Is... The Donor Isn't Dead.

So, out of nowhere my mom gets a call from "the donor". (that's what we call my "dad") The donor says that my half-brother (his son with his first wife) called him to get me his phone numbers because he would like to get together and get to know each other. We have met before, and even hung out once or twice as kids, but we didn't grow up together so I've spent less time with him then even the donor. I guess he's got 3 kids now. I am going to call him, because I've thought over the years that it would be neat for us to at least know each other, but it's kinda strange too. I don't know what I'm supposed to talk about with him. lol... other than bashing the donor. I know we have that in common. Anyway, we'll see how that goes. Then today, I got a message through myspace from a friend I haven't seen in probably 6 years. That's cool too.

Hell Hath No Fury Like a Ginger Scorned!

Yesterday there was a Gingerkid uprising. lol. Apparently the group ImprovEverwhere decided to put together a mock protest. They got together a group of people to protest outside a Wendy's. There issue?... Wendy's logo, Wendy, as a symbol of redheads everywhere. lol You can check out footage of the event here at CollegeHumor.com My personal favorite chants are "Biggie Size Bigotry!" and "We love Frostys, but at what cost-y?" lol Good times.

Movie Reviews: In bulk

Holy crap I have seen some fucking movies recently.

First and most importantly Harry Potter 5. I loved this movie, of course because it's Harry Potter right? ... However, I do have to say that it really sucks that so much is left out of the movies. I know that it's not realistic to expect everything to make it in... it would just be too long. Still, I must admit that the movie just didn't blow my mind and make me say I LOVE IT! I really liked it.
Transformers: I LOVE IT! I was never really a Transformer fan as a kid, all I needed was Barbie. So, I had no expectations going into this movie, maybe that helped. Thought it was great! (However, I hated the cheesy "There is more to us than meets the eye" comment at the end. gag!)
Die Hard 4: Loved it!!! I always love me some Bruce Willis, and he didn't disappoint me.
Thank You For Smoking: Fantastic movie!!
The Queen: Great movie... but it it's accurate the Queen's husband is such an asshole!
How to Eat Fried Worms: really cute, reminded me of how much I loved the book as a kid
Notorious Bettie Page: I love Bettie Page and I thought that Gretchen Mol did a great job as Bettie.
Breach: Really great performances by everyone... Ryan Phillipe is SO cute.
Catch & Release: eh. It was ok. Not great, not shit. Just ok.
An American Haunting: ...um. ok. ? It was... different.

Happy Birthday Amurika!

I hope all of you had a great July 4th. I did. I've got family in town that haven't been here in 10 years, and it's been great getting to spend time with them. Of course, with our family time together means playing Nerts! (a group solitaire type game). This game is HUGE in our family... it's THE game and we all take it pretty serious, so getting to play it for 2 days straight was awesome! My cousins are so much older now so they're really good at the game, which makes it more fun. I'll get to see them tomorrow again before they leave for Canada on Saturday. They are moving from Oklahoma to Portland, but before they do they are visiting the family here and in Canada. We went and parked to watch the fireworks over the city...it was a great day. :D

In other news, Big Brother 8 started today! WOO HOO... I'm SO excited!!! I LIKE IT A LOT! This season there is going to be an additional 3 hours of uncensored footage every night on Showtime. My Big Brother cup runneth over. As for tonight's show... all I can say is the Nick, the football player, is fucking hot! Seriously, check him out here. While there, check out his favorite movies. "Legends of the Fall, Braveheart, Last of the Mohicans". hmmm. Interesting answers from an ex Pro Football Player.

"I close my eyes... and feel your hand in mine"

My sweet babies, Bon Jovi had a new album come out last week... and so I'm steeped in Bon Jovi goodness. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this album, Lost Highway. So far my favorite track is #4 "Whole Lot of Leaving Going On" in which he sings the above.
"I close my eyes, and feel your hand in mine."

Folks... the facts are clear. It couldn't be more obvious. He is of course singing to me about the fateful night our hands touched. In case you forgot, you can refresh your memory here. Anyway, it's nice to see that the moment we shared meant as much to me as it did to him. :D

In other news Big Brother 8 starts next week and I might actually pee myself in antici...

The Implicit Association Test

I saw a piece on Oprah recently about a test that was developed at Harvard. The test uses quick, rapid fire responses to visual stimuli to gauge your preferences for black and white people. It sounded interesting, so I looked it up and took it. Here is the result.

Thank you for your participation.

In this study, we are investigating conscious and unconscious preferences with regard to black and white people. Your result on the Implicit Association Test is reported immediately below:

  • Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for White People compared to Black People.

It goes on in more detail related to the questions asked, but that's the basic result. Hopefully a modest preference for your own race is to be expected. Another interesting result is that I rated black males higher than white males. Interesting. To take the test yourself follow this link. If you have problems with the link the url is https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/Study?tid=-1

Shannon Malloy Benefit Info. It's Time to Party!

My friend, Shannon Malloy, was in a horrible accident earlier this year and she almost died. Some of you may have heard her story. If you haven't I ask you to take a moment and read this story from Channel 7 news:

~~~~~~Article from Denvers Channel 7 news: DENVER, Colo. — Miracles do happen. That's what doctors said about 30-year-old Shannon Malloy. A car crash in Nebraska on Jan. 25 threw Malloy up against the vehicle's dashboard. In the process, her skull became separated from her spine. The clinical term for her condition is called internal decapitation. "I remember the impact and then I had no control over my head," said Malloy. "I wasn't focused so much on the pain. I just kept thinking, 'I have to stay alive.'" Dr. Gary Ghiselli, a chiropractor at the Denver Spine Center, said Malloy's will to survive is what saved her. "I've seen it once before and, unfortunately, the patient didn't make it," said Ghiselli. Five screws were drilled into Malloy's neck. Four more were drilled into her head to keep it stabilized. Then a thing called a halo — rods and a circular metal bar — was attached for added support. It's not exactly a pain-free procedure. "My skull slipped off my neck about five times. Every time they tried to screw this to my head, I would slip," said Malloy. Rebuilding Malloy's neck strength was a priority, but there were also other complications. "I had a fractured skull, swollen brain stem, bleeding in my brain, GI tube in my stomach, can't swallow, and nerve damage in my eyes (because they cross)," said Malloy. Doctors are working on that but she has been lucky enough to get the halo removed. She videotaped the experience for 7NEWS. "It only took about 8 minutes to take the whole thing off," said Malloy. "Wow! There's my girl again," said her mom, Robin Frazee. Frazee said she's amazed that her daughter has found the strength to survive the ordeal. Frazee remembers the first few days in the hospital as "touch and go." One doctor continued to tell the family to prepare for the worst. "It was just really scary because he just kept saying we've never seen this injury before in a person that's alive and you need to say your goodbyes," said Frazee. But, goodbye won't be happening anytime soon. "Oh my God, it's a miracle," said Malloy. "It's a miracle that she was able to survive from the actual accident. It's a miracle that she's made the progress that she's made," said Ghiselli. Doctors will continue to work on Malloy's swallowing and vision. Malloy said a big step in her recovery progress was the removal of her halo and it's made her hopeful that a full recovery is in sight. "I would ideally like to be fully recovered. I know that's not going to be a great possibility. I could come real close though," said Malloy. Malloy still has a long, costly recovery ahead. A fund has been set up in Malloy's name at Wells Fargo banks. You can make donations at any location under the "The Benefit of Shannon Malloy."
I've put a link on my site to the Wells Fargo Locations site. You can go there and find out where the nearest Wells Fargo Bank site is to your home. They have banks all across the country. You can also call 1-800-956-4442 for help in locating a donation spot near you.
For those of you in Denver, there is another way to help... and it's much more fun. On Saturday, June 30th there is going to be a benefit for Shannon. Funds raised will go towards the payment of the MAJOR medical costs she has now. The benefit is going to be at Sam Taylor's BBQ (435 S Cherry St, Denver CO, 303-388-9300) from 2:00 - 7:00. There will be music, raffles, and more.
You can also check out Shannon's MySpace page for more info. If you can help, please do. Shannon is a close friend of mine and although her spirits are great, she has a really long road ahead of her. I love Shannon dearly, and I hope that those of you that can come to the benefit will. I would love to hang out with all of you out there, and you should meet Shannon. She's the coolest fucking person ever.
Summer TV Preview
It's time for me to talk TV. With the season finales of all my shows it's time to look ahead at what the summer will bring us.
  • Pirate Master: I'm totally excited about this one. It could be cheesy... of course. However, it could be the perfect marriage between Survivor, the Amazing Race and Pirates of the Carribean. Fun! Starts May 31st
  • Big Brother: Starts in July and I can't wait. I LOVE BIG BROTHER! Titty wood!
  • National Bingo Night: hmmm. I don't know about this one. I guess I just don't get it. Bingo is fun though... so I guess it's got potential. Also, isn't that bald, British host guy a carpenter from Extreme Makeover Home Edition? Random.
  • America's Got Talent: Oh David Hasselhoff.. you magnificent you. I didn't watch this at all last year, for obvious reasons. However, this year they have really raised the bar by replacing Brandy with Sharon Osbourne. lol THEN they raised the pot by tossing in some Jerry Springer. Folks... that's got good times baked right in. lol This is your favorite show.
  • So You Think You Can Dance: Starts May 24 and I CAN'T WAIT! I love this show! Mom and I even went to the tour for last season's cast. It was so awesome! Fuck Dancing With the Stars. These kids are real dancers and it's so much fun to watch. Although this season I'll miss Cat Deeley saying "Bunji" lol If you watched it then you got that. If not, too bad. :D
  • Top Chef: Starts June 13. Anyone who likes cooking or eating should enjoy this show. I really love seeing the different dishes these talented chefs come up with each week. Now, they are artists and that means that they are all usually big time drama queens, and that can get old. I really can't wait though.
  • Traveler: I watched the pilot and it was pretty good. I think this is a show I could get into. I'm hesitant only because I hate getting into a show that is mystery/answer based and then the show gets canceled and you never get your answers (Threshold, Kidnapped, Jericho, Invasion, etc.) airs May 30.
  • Kid Nation: "will take 40 children and set them up in an abandoned New Mexico town. Cameras will follow them as they try to set up their own society without adult supervision." I just found this online... this could be pretty cool. Interesting.
My Sweet Country Buffet Seranade.
So, I had a really great birthday this year. It ended up being a week long celebration, as it should be. I got to spend sometime with my cousin Travis and he got me Year Zero. (sweet!) Mom, Gma and I hit the Cinco De Mayo festival downtown, and that always kicks ass. I had the BEST tacos ever, then that night my, my mom and some friends hung out at Buffalo Wild Wings for some food, beer and to watch the Oscar DelaHoya fight. My mom and I loves us some Oscar (so we were pretty disappointed that he lost. good fight though.) My mom and I went out to dinner and of all places for my to pick where I wanted to eat for a birthday celebration dinner... I picked the Country Buffet. lol Don't judge me! It's just what I picked alright?! Anyway, as we were walking in I said to my mom that she must be pretty dissapointed that we went somewhere were she can't have anyone sing to me. ...can you feel it coming yet.... So, later we're to the dessert and coffee phase of eating and suddenly (out of nowhere suddenly, like they acutally scared me) our section waitress and section busboy appear singing Happy Birthday to me and present me with a piece of cake that even had a candle in it and some icing "decoration". Now, to help set the scene it's important to note that this particular busboy didn't speak english, and had to keep looking to the waitress for what to say(which was good times). Also, the Country Buffet was rockin' this particular night so I don't think anyone else even heard them sing it. It was the funniest fucking thing I have ever seen. Big props to Mom for pulling that together. Touche. Mom got me the new Joss Stone cd, a starbucks gift card (which is always nice) and tickets to Champions on Ice this coming wednesday. (by the way closet figure skating fan Jake is going with me, my mom and my Gma. lol) Justin got me a NIN dvd, Jake got me a Casino Royale box set. Wow... what a great birthday. Thanks to all my friends and family for making it such a great birthday year.
This time...it's for Amurica!
So, I'm at the library using their computers (by the way the Library kicks ass! It's been awhile and I forgot how cool they are. You can do anything here....it's totally tits.) So, I've got 26 min. left at my station. Let's do this:
A: Movie Reviews
  • Spiderman3: At the end of the day it's still a Spiderman movie and that means it kicks ass. However the title of this post refers to the WORST scene EVER in Spiderman3. Spidey lands in front of a giant American flag! GAG!! They might as well had him say "This is for the widows of 9/11!" lol Still, I liked it. Did it rock my face off? No, but if you like Spiderman you should see it.
  • Grandma's Boy: I've got 2 people who told me to see this movie and both lent it to me to watch. Jake has been the one telling me it's not good and not to waste my time. Watched it. My verdict? Totally funny, Jake is dumb. It was funny.
B: My friend from Rhode Island is coming out twice this summer and I'm so excited to see her. It's been a long time since I've seen my Donkey Lips. :D lol
C: OMG! I could not be more excited about the summer ahead. Why? Well this is going to be one of the best soap opera summers I've ever had. There is some major shit going down in Salem and I am SO HAPPY. The new writer has really settled in, and you can get a sense of where he wants to take the show now... and that means bringing back A LOT of people that have been gone for awhile. YEAH! Interested? Check it out here!
D: I finally heard from the DNC about volunteering at the convention in '08. I should be hearing back again soon about what kind of help they need. I'm really excited to be volunteering for this. I don't know... I guess it just feels good being involved somehow. I just want to party with that many people who dislike W as much as I do. Good times.
E: I get to go see McDreamy (my brain doctor) this week. It's been about 7-8 mos. since I was last there so I'm hoping that there will be good news. I'm hoping that he tells me I'm all good and I can quit taking my meds. I think he'll probably want to do another EEG though. We'll see. Wish me luck on that.
F: Regarding the winners
  • Amazing Race: Fuck that! I wanted the Barbies to win, but would rather have seen Mirna and Charla win over Eric and Danielle. Whatever.
  • Survivor: I wish that Yau Man had made it to the end and won, but since he didn't I was glad that Earl won. congrats Earl. (I still can't believe that Cassandra made it to the end)
Ok, time is almost up on my computer station so I'll say Goodbye for today.
Next time we'll discuss my birthday, DORK becoming Animo, and I've got some thoughts on Dustin Diamond. See ya later.
P.S. Christoph has a web page now, I've added links to the right. If you need any video work done he's your guy so check out his site.
Unfortunately that's all there is time for today.
May Angels Lead You In
So, all my computers are broken. Lame. I finally decided to make a post from Jake's house. Lots of things going on right now... hopefully I'll get online again soon and will have time to update you all on everything.
For now I just want to take a moment to mention the passing of Sonny's mom, Emma. She was a wonderful woman who was my second mom. I loved her and I send my love to her family. She will be missed.
My List of 5
I've had to make some adjustments to my List of 5. Some people are the same as the last time (shown here) .
First of all, as with last time I don't have to put my sweet baby JBJ on the list.. it's just a given since he's my husband. (Thanks to Justin for bringing this loophole to light.) Also, I'm unable to post pictures currently so click on their names to see a picture.
#1: Daniel Craig: Seriously... I can't get enough. And he's BLOND! That's unusual for me.
#2: Orlando Bloom: Look for the episode of Extras on HBO with him guest starring. So funny!
#3: Leo DiCaprio: Leo has been #1 on my list in the past... and he's come back. He's so hot. It's good to see him again.
#4: Johnny Depp: Need I say more?
#5: Gordon Ramsey: This is a brand new one. He's a chef and he is SO HOT!! (And he's another Blond Brit.) Matthew McConaughey would have been in this spot... but he's been sporting facial hair a lot lately and that grosses me out. So for now, I'm all about the hot Brit chef.
Paula Abdul... You "Dazzled" Me!
As you can see I've changed the look of my nooks and crannys. hee hee. I'm SO frustrated with the new customizing though. Some of it is a lot easier, but I can't get it to change the DAMN colors! AAGH! So, I'm not finished updating. Hang in there. : D
So, since Anna Nicole has died I have to put someone else in charge of her group of daffy bastards. It's been a hard choice. I almost promoted Courtney Love, and I almost gave the position to Anna Nicole's mother... however in the end I decided to make Paula Abdul the new leader of the level 2 crazies. I mean... she has really put in the extra time lately earning this position. In related news, I've also added Brittney Spears to this group... the girl is having a meltdown right before our eyes.
Anna Nicole Smith
I'm truly saddened by the death of Anna Nicole. At least she has been reunited with her son now. I hope all the madness around her daughter dies down now so that she can be with whoever her father may be, and that she is loved and cared for
Rest in Peace Anna Nicole.
It's a Learning Computer.
OK, so.... the light in my computer's eyes died... Terminator style. People tell me it's probably an issue with the 'power box' inside it. LAME! So, until I have the money to fix it I'm using my old CPU. It took me awhile to get everything all hooked up and working correctly. So, I'm all ready to go now. Fingers crossed that this computer doesn't die too.
So... now that I'm back... LET'S DO THIS. Go!
2007: Year of the Little Bitch
Holiday Re-Cap
So, I'm a bad blog mommy again. I can't believe I didn't post at all last month. Moo, moo moo. So here's a recap of my holidays. Christmas was HellaLame this year. Why do we force ourselves to spend time with family?! Why?! There is a reason you don't see them for the rest of the year. I ended up spending Xmas eve with my least favorite aunt and her jerk boyfriend. Mom didn't even go with me, but I kind of HAD to go. Lame. That night, at the dinner table, my grandmother started asking (or drilling) my poor cousin about his sobriety and his future job prospects...nice. Then the next day at her house, this time for Christmas dinner and again at the table, she brought up my mini-crime-spree and said I was a bad investment. Very nice. Aaahhh... Christmas. Xmas day was headed quick for disaster so mom and I left and headed home to make our own dinner. So, in the end it was OK because Mom and I were together. Fuck all the other jazz. It was great getting to see my cousins though. I don't see them very often and we all get along great, so that was the nice part of the family parties. As for New Year's Eve, it was actually a lot of fun this year. Jake and I went to a party thrown by a co-worker of his and then later headed back to his place where a bunch of us hung out, drank and played poker. Good times. Happy New Year to you all by the way! Woo hoo! Better late than never. I don't usually make resolutions, I think the idea is kind of silly. However, this year is different. It's time for me to get my shit together. I'm still not 100% recovered from the viral meningitis, but who knows when I will be. I need to get back to work, and fix my financial situation. So, that's my goal this year. Organize my life. :D I'm actually feeling pretty good still. January is a horrible month for me and so usually I'm pretty depressed all the way through Valentine's day. RD died on the 9th and his birthday is the 15th. This will be the 9th anniversary of his death. I can't believe it's been 9 years, although I say that every year. aaagh... nope. I'm not going to deal with that today. Anyway, here's wishing all of us a great year this year.
